Chevrolet Equinox Is Safe For Teen Drivers | Mercedes, TX
Earlier this year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released a list of vehicles across various model years that it deemed safe for teen drivers who are learning the ropes of driving and need a reliable vehicle with plenty of built-in safety features.
Earning A Spot On The List
Since the Chevrolet Equinox offers so much advanced safety tech, it earned a spot on the IIHS list. Specifically, the IIHS identified Equinox models from 2016 onward.
So how did the IIHS make this determination? For starters, the organization used its own data — vehicles on the list had to earn either a good or acceptable in its own driver-side small overlap front test; vehicles also had to earn a rating of good in roof strength, side, head restraint, and moderate overlap front tests. The small SUV excelled in all areas.
But that’s not all. The IIHS also looked at National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash test data. Vehicles that earned a spot on the list had to achieve scores of four stars in both front and side tests — and in the overall test. Again, the Equinox met these requirements.
Finally, vehicles like the Equinox had to earn at least three stars for their emergency handling capability in Consumer Reports Reviews.
